It's true that I'd scrawled two names on my scrap paper but I wasn't really going to go through it again. But then, all of a sudden, for no particular reason I did it.
I submitted novel 3 to a publisher.
I'd seen a post on Twitter mentioning someone's book and the publisher's name, so, out of curiosity, I looked it up. They'd closed to submissions but pointed me in the way of their new ebook outlet. I trotted over there and before I knew what I'd done I'd only gone and submitted.
Well, it was quite easy; I had to hand all the information they wanted. Admittedly I did edit and play with the opening lines for some time before saying, 'Oh blow it, it's only going to be rejected anyway,' before attaching the draft manuscript and clicking send.
I say novel 3 but strictly speaking it's novel 4. Novel 3, in order of writing, is a more serious literary (I like to think) affair and probably even less likely to attract a publisher.
So watch this space for news of rejection.
